Headed to Virginia Beach for the Weekend.

by Paulster2 on 04-10-2012 at 12:29
About five months ago, we went to a Home/Garden show at a local event. While there, we got trapped by the pretty little sales girl who gave us the shpiel and sold us a "vacation package" for cheap. Little did we know for the cheap price, it also includes a hard sell presentation to buy a time share or some other worthless, cash-strapping type package. I definitely do not want to sign up for anything which will cost us on a regular basis, but will have to watch out for the wife. Doesn't

90 Minutes with Dave Smith PT 3

(... continued from Part 2)

From here we went back through the warehouse area where they stock all of their parts. We came upon this stack of doors and trunk lids for the Mk4 kits. Dave pulled one up and showed us how the edges are radiused and not just cut. The piece is actually two pieces of fiber glass which are bonded together. There are separate parts on the inside which are cut out so you can get inside of the piece to do the wiring. Another small piece goes into place to cover

( ... Continued from Part 1)

Next Dave took us back through the fabrication area where they cut and weld all of the parts for their cars. While this may not be the most glamorous portion of the tour, it definitely is where some work gets done. The pictures show several different areas and people (I wish I could remember all of the names, but there was just way too many people ... I have to say though, they were all cool. They were nice and treated us very well. It was nice to meet

90 Minutes with Dave Smith PT 1

by Paulster2 on 03-27-2012 at 20:07
Monday I left to come to Boston for a conference for work. The plan was to be here most of the week. When I found out, I dropped an email to Factory Five Racing to see if I could get a tour of the plant. Their front lady, Sally Bean, sent me back a note saying they could oblige. I was ecstatic (as you could probably tell from this blog post). When I got to Boston, I got in the rental car and started my hour trek down to Wareham, MA. I arrived a little early due to being able to grab an early flight.

Factory Five Racing Visit

by Paulster2 on 03-09-2012 at 15:42
I have to make a trip to Boston at the end of the month (26-29 March). One of the things I've wanted to do for the past 10 years is to make a trip up there and visit Factory Five Racing (or FFR). For those of you who don't know, FFR makes (arguably) the best kit of the venerable '65 AC Cobra. They are currently up to the fourth iteration of their design. The concept of the kit is to buy a (just about any year) of wrecked Mustang as a donor, buy their kit, and do the body work after you have it all
